Housemarque is known for the Super Stardust game series and many other games.

history

Housemarque was founded in 1995 by two Finnish game developers, Ilari Kuittinen from Terramarque and Harri Tikkanen from Bloodhouse . Both Terramarque and Bloodhouse were player development teams for Amiga , but the new company, Housemarque, targeted the PC game market.

The first CD-ROM game that was developed by Housemarque for the PCs was the space shooter game Super Stardust (1996), later followed by the adventure game Alien Incident (1996) and the shooter game The Reap was released in 1997 .

In 1999, Housemarque signed a contract with Infogrames Entertainment to develop the extreme sports game Supreme Snowboarding ( known as Boarder Zone in the US ). Supreme Snowboarding has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide.

At the beginning of the new millennium, Housemarque shifted its focus from PC games to new game platforms. After the genre of Supreme Snowboarding, the first console game Transworld Snowboarding was released for Xbox in 2002 and Floboarding for Nokia's handheld game console N-Gage in 2003. They also developed Gizmondo Motocross for Gizmondo in 2005, The Chronicles of Narnia 3D for J2ME and Brew in 2005. Housemarque also developed games for the PlayStation 2 , but they were never released.

Housemarque's great success came with the PlayStation 3 . In 2007, Housemarque developed an updated and revised version of the space shooter game Super Stardust , it was called Super Stardust HD and appeared on PlayStation Network . The game received very good reviews, it was praised for its great visual effects, attention to detail in the graphics and gameplay with a surprising amount of depth in its demolition scenes. The game was one of the top 10 best-selling PSN games in the PAL & NTSC regions according to 2008 statistics.

Housemarque continued to develop games on new platforms, such as the golf game Golf: Tee It Up! for the Xbox 360 in the Xbox Live Store and the PSP version of Super Stardust in 2008. The zombie shooter Dead Nation was released in 2010 for PlayStation 3 in the PSN Store.

In 2011, Harri Tikkanen was still the company's Creative & Technical Director and Ilari Kuittinen is the CEO of Housemarque. Housemarque's game Outland was released for PSN and XBLA in April 2011. The game combines 2D platformer, action game and lavish graphics and received very good reviews for its graphics, gameplay and music.

On the Gamescom 2013 on 20 August 2013 was Resogun announced and released as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 in November 2013. On February 26, 2014 was Dead Nation on PlayStation 4 as Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition announced and released in early March 2014 for the PlayStation. 1½ months later, Dead Nation was announced for the PlayStation Vita and was released on April 16, 2014 in the European PlayStation Store .
