Housing Anywhere is an international online accommodation platform that specializes in accommodation for students and interns . The start-up , founded in 2009 , is headquartered in Rotterdam .

history

Housing Anywhere was founded in 2009 by Niels van Deuren, then a student at the Erasmus University Rotterdam . Since the platform has its origin in Rotterdam, partnerships with Dutch universities were initially sought, which should recommend the platform to their students. The first international market entries took place in 2011 in Germany , Spain , France and Denmark .

In 2014 Housing Anywhere took over the Danish competitor, CasaSwap. In the same year, Djordy Seelmann became one of the main shareholders of Housing Anywhere and Head of Development.

Housing Anywhere has also been operating outside of Europe since 2015 and has partnerships with universities in Brazil , Mexico and the USA .

In January 2020 HousingAnywhere took over the competitors Studenten-WG.de and Zwischenmiete.de.

Business model

The business model is based on the concept of the sharing economy . Students who go abroad and thus leave their room behind can sublet it to visiting students via the platform. The company is partly financed by membership fees from participating universities.

In order to use the portal (and e.g. to contact a provider), registration and verification of the data is required. Housing Anywhere charges a fee for booking a room. The company promises to refund the renter if the room does not match the description.

competition

At the national level there have been and are many similar portals; in German-speaking countries B. wg-gesucht.de, studenten-wg.de or studenten-wohnung.de. In contrast to Housing Anywhere, these can usually be used free of charge by private seekers and providers and some offer a larger range, but are mostly limited to national cities. Airbnb , on the other hand, has an international focus, but is not primarily aimed at student-friendly apartments, but rather at rental apartments for vacations and short-term stays.

Housing Anywhere's other competitors specializing in the housing market for international students include uniplaces.com and student.com.
