Houtskär (Swedish), Finnish Houtskari , is a former municipality in the archipelago off the coast of south-west Finland. Today Houtskär belongs to the city of Pargas .

The area of ​​Houtskär was settled by Swedish farmers in the Middle Ages . The first written mention of the place as a chapel parish of the Korpo parish comes from the year 1554. Houtskär became an independent parish in 1865. At the beginning of 2009, Houtskär merged with the parishes of Nagu , Korpo and Iniö as well as the city of Pargas to form the city of Väståboland , which was again renamed Pargas in 2012.

The former municipality of Houtskär is located in the western part of the archipelago off the coast of southwest Finland, northwest of Korpo and south of Iniö and comprises a total of around 700 archipelago and cliffs. The main town of Houtskär is about 50 kilometers as the crow flies southwest of Turku . Excluding the marine areas, Houtskär had an area of ​​120.64 km². The population was 633, of which 85.9% Finland-Sweden . Officially, the community was bilingual with Swedish as the majority and Finnish as the minority language. The Swedish People's Party , the traditional political representation of Finland-Swedes, received 100% of the vote in the 2004 local elections.
