Nathan Hovhannisian

Nathan Hovhannisian (born May 9, 1955 in Yerevan ) is an Armenian clergyman. He is the current Bishop of London and All England of the Armenian Apostolic Church (Etchmiadzin Catholic).

After studying music, Hovhannisian entered the Echmiadzin theological seminary in 1984 . He was ordained a celibate priest in 1988 and obtained his doctorate in 1989 as a Vardapet . He then worked from 1989 to 1991 as deputy dean of the seminary and lecturer in patrology and ancient church history.

Catholicos Wasgen I. entrusted him with the administration of the newly founded Diocese of Ukraine in 1991, and Catholicos Karekin I consecrated him as its bishop on June 15, 1997. He held office in Ukraine until 2000.

In June 2000, Bishop Nathan Hovhannisian was elected Primate of the Armenian Orthodox Church in Great Britain and patriarchal legate to the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury . He took office on October 1, 2000.
