Howard Air Force Base
The Howard Air Force Base is a former base of the United States Air Force in Panama . It was signed on November 1, 1999 as one of the results of the Torrijos Carter Treaties . This stipulates that the USA will give up all military facilities in the vicinity of the Panama Canal and hand them over to the Panamanian government.
Howard has long been considered the bastion of the US Air Forces in Central and South America and was opened in 1942. In their heyday, Howard was the base for anti-drug missions , military and civil air transport, and major maneuvers and SAR operations. The base is only about 500 meters from the Pacific Ocean .
Parts of the film James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace were shot on the base .
