life and work

Howard Thurston was known for his card tricks and was nicknamed the "King of Cards": he made cards disappear from his fingertips and rise by themselves. To do this, he asked some of his viewers to choose any cards from a pile, mixed the rest and put the pile under a glass. Then the spectators' cards rose from the pile, clearly visible through the transparent glass wall.

He was also known for his "Thurston Show", which is considered the greatest magic show in history. Thurston was successful with his stage magic for 30 years. When he died of pneumonia in 1936 at the age of 66 , several American newspapers such as the Washington Post reported his death.
