Howeg was the Swiss market leader in food wholesaling , based in Winterthur . The company became a 100% subsidiary of Transgourmet Schweiz AG, which is part of the Coop- owned Transgourmet Holding AG.

The company offered a product range of around 9,000 items and employed over 350 people. In addition to Winterthur, Howeg operated five other delivery centers in Switzerland.

Howeg generated net sales of CHF 337 million in the third quarter of 2011.

history

Howeg was founded in 1931 as the Howeg Cooperative . In 1983 the majority of the shares in Howeg, which had long since become a stock corporation, was held by Hofer & Curti AG and no longer with the cooperative itself. In 1992 the company was taken over by Aux Planteurs Réunis AG and two years later relocated from Grenchen to Ebikon . In 1995 Howeg merged with its owner to form Howeg Planteurs Réunis AG . In 1999 Howeg moved its headquarters to Dietikon. In 2000 it merged with its holding company Prodega . In 2003 the Rewe Group took over the majority of the international Transgourmet Holding. In 2005, half of Coop invested in Transgourmet Holding. A year later Howeg moved its headquarters to its new logistics center in Winterthur. In 2011 the holding was completely taken over by Coop.
