The cigar brand Hoyo de Monterrey , German: Valley of Monterrey, located in the Vuelta Abajo growing area in the province of Pinar del Río , is one of the oldest and best-known cigar brands from Cuba .

history

The brand was founded by José Gener in 1865, five years after he started growing tobacco. His name is still on the boxes today. The cigars from Hoyo de Monterrey are long filler premium cigars with a mild aroma. Today the brand is owned by the Cuban state. There is another type of cigar with the same name made in Honduras .
