Hrappsey is an island in Breiðafjörður in western Iceland .
It is located about 7 km northeast of Stykkishólmur at the entrance to Hvammsfjörður . From 1773 there was Hrappseyjarprentsmiðja , the second printing company in Iceland. The first, in Hólar , belonged to the bishopric there. The island was inhabited until 1958 and was then given to the Háskóli Íslands . Hrappsey is now privately owned.
