The Htukannthein Temple ( Burmese ထုက္ က န့ ် သိမ် ; pronounced: 'Htoke-kan-thein') is a Buddhist temple in Mrauk U , Myanmar . It was built in 1571 under King Min Phalaung .

description

The temple stands on a hill opposite the Shite Thaung Temple . The floor plan is rectangular with an apse over one of the narrow sides. On this base sits a bell-shaped stupa with a mushroom-shaped hat in the middle . The four corners crown smaller stupas that are very similar to the central one.
The only entrance leads to a rectangular vestibule via a double curved arched corridor with numerous niches in which Buddha statues sit. From there a staircase leads up to the oval vaulted cella with a seated Buddha on a high altar.
The niches in the hallway are flanked by reliefs with diverse depictions of distinguished ladies and gentlemen from the time the temple was built; they convey a vivid picture of the fashion of this era.
