Hubbard Street Dance Chicago

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (HSDC) is an American dance group based in Chicago . The New York Times called the group one of the most important dance groups on the American scene and a "flagship for modern choreography ". More than 100,000 people attend the performances each year.

The company was founded in 1977 by the dancer and choreographer Lou Conte , who formed the group as artistic director until he left in 2000. Initially four, now 22 dancers belong to the ensemble and it is directed by Jim Vincent (artistic director) and Jason D. Palmquist (managing director).

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago has choreographies by Jiří Kylián , Nacho Duato , Ohad Naharin , William Forsythe , Susan Marshall , Christopher Bruce and Daniel Ezralow, among others . The group appears at festivals around the world, most recently in April 2007 at the “International Dance Summit 2008” of the Berlin State Ballet with several appearances at the Deutsche Oper and several times, most recently in 2008 and 2010, at the Pacemaker Festival in Aachen .

For the promotion of young talent, HSDC maintains 2 Hubbard Street (HS2), where dancers aged 17 to 25 especially perform productions by young choreographers.
