The Hubertus Chapel is a church building in the Ückesdorf district of Bonn . It stands as a monument under monument protection .

history

In 1718 Michael Rheindorf (son of Tilmannus Rheindorf & Elisabeth Moll), vicar at the Cassius monastery in Bonn , had the chapel built at his own expense. In the following years, Michael Rheindorf and his family ensured the preservation of the chapel with other foundations. After the death of the founder, the Rheindorf family was granted the right of patronage for the Hubertus Chapel and thus assumed the obligation to keep the chapel. For a long time, successive members of the Halfen family Rheindorf held the office of vicar in the parish of Ückesdorf.

Local tradition tells of an event that is said to have happened and led to the rededication of the chapel originally dedicated to the Holy Trinity . Thereafter, in 1727, a villager was bitten by a rabid dog. The holy Hubertus was considered a helper against rabies and then the villager went along with her husband barefoot on a pilgrimage to Saint-Hubert in the Ardennes to the grave of St. Hubertus. Healed, the couple brought back a statue of the saint from this pilgrimage, which was placed in the chapel as thanks. Around this time, the worship of St. Hubert began in Ückesdorf. Later, the Hubertus Festival was celebrated on November 3rd.

Until 1968 the Hubertus chapel was the only church building in Ückesdorf. Due to the increasing number of inhabitants in the 1950s and 1960s, the chapel became too small, which led to the construction of a new and larger parish church, which has already been demolished.

Furnishing

In the interior of the single - nave half-timbered chapel there was originally a Katharinen altar, which was given by the Bonn chapter of the monastery and which comes from the crypt of the Bonn minster . Nothing is known about the whereabouts of this altar. The chapel was later given a late baroque wooden altar. In the reredos of the altar there is an oil painting of St. Peter , which was created in 1668 by Anton Rheindorf on behalf of the married couple Johann and Katharina Schruder.

In the chapel there is a sculpture of St. Hubert and a Madonna sculpture , both woodwork from the 18th century.

In the gable tower hangs a bell from 1910 with a diameter of 40 centimeters.
