Karlín Music Theater

The Hudební divadlo Karlín ( German Musiktheater Karlín ) is located not far from the Florenc metro station in Prague ( Czech Republic ).

It was opened under the name Théâtre-Variété on August 27, 1881. The building, one of the three oldest theater buildings in Prague, was designed by Otto Ehlen and built by the František Kindel company within nine months. The theater was financed by the later owner Eduard Tichý .

The theater was rebuilt several times, the first time in 1897 according to plans by Friedrich Ohmann . The sculptures, the handicraft equipment, the ceiling paintings, the gilded portal and the hand-painted theater curtain all date from this period. The auditorium was rebuilt in the 1920s. The tables and chairs typical of variety shows were replaced by rows of chairs.
