Hughes sand otter ( Echis hughesi ) is a species of vipers (Viperidae) and belongs to the genus of sand otters ( Echis ). The snake was first described from Somalia in 1990 , information about its way of life is not available. Like all sand-rattle otters, this species also has a potent venom, but no details are known.
features
Hughes sand rattle otter is a small sand rattle otter with a body length of 21 to 32 cm. In its scaling, it is particularly similar to the Egyptian sand rattle otter ( Echis pyramidum ). The body color is variable, the basic color is mostly dark brown with a series of light spots on the back bordered by dark scales. In the middle of the body the snake has 24 to 25 rows of scales.

The snake is so far only known from northern Somalia from the region of northern Migiurtinia near Meledin , the first person to describe it as Terra typica stated "Somalia, 10 ° 02 'North latitude, 49 ° East longitude". "
