Hughes Tool Company

The Hughes Tool Company was founded in 1909 by Howard Robard Hughes Sr. founded. Initially, it mainly manufactured special drill heads, but continuously expanded its product range. With the death of Hughes senior, the company passed into the possession of his son Howard Hughes junior , who was then still a student at Rice University .

In 1932, Howard Hughes Jr. founded the Hughes Aircraft subsidiary . In 1936, Hughes Aircraft was finally separated from the parent company.

In 1972 the tool division of the Hughes Tool Company was sold. While the tool division continued to operate under the name Hughes Tool Company, the remainder of the company was renamed Summa Corporation .

In 1987 the Hughes Tool Company and Baker International merged to become Baker Hughes .
