Baker Hughes in Celle

Baker Hughes is one of the leading petroleum service companies in the world. The company was formed in 1987 from the merger of Baker International Corporation and Hughes Tool Company . The company's headquarters are in Houston / Texas ( USA ). Larger offices are located in Aberdeen ( UK ), Singapore , Dubai ( UAE ), Celle ( Germany ) and Lafayette ( USA ). Baker Hughes is included in the S&P 500 stock index .

history

The founding of Baker International in 1907 by Reuben C. Baker laid the foundation for the company's history. The Hughes Tool Company emerges from the Sharp-Hughes Tool Company founded in 1909 by Walter B. Sharp and Howard Robard Hughes Sr. These two companies merged in 1987 to become Baker Hughes Incorporated. Before and after this merger, Baker Hughes bought a large number of other companies in the petroleum service industry, thereby significantly expanding its product portfolio.

On November 17, 2014, it was announced that Halliburton plans to take over smaller rival Baker Hughes. Talks about a merger were announced the week before. The price is said to be about $ 35 billion (about 28 billion euros). Halliburton is offering shareholders 1.12 of its own shares and $ 19 in cash for each Baker share.

The US Antitrust Office made this merger difficult because of monopoly formation in some areas. Ultimately, on April 30, 2016, the boards of directors of Baker Hughes and Halliburton agreed that each would remain independent. Halliburton had to pay Baker Hughes $ 3.5 billion in damages.

In late October 2016, Baker Hughes announced that it would merge the company with General Electric's oil and gas business . The merger was implemented in mid-2017. GE holds 62.5% of the new company. Since then, the company has operated as BakerHughes, a GE Company (BHGE).
