from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hugo XVIII. von Montfort (* 1595 or 1599; † 1662 in Langenargen ), according to alternative counting also Hugo XV. von Montfort , was the ruling Count of Montfort from 1619 to 1655 at the time of the Thirty Years War .

Count Hugo XVIII. von Montfort introduced a house law in 1652 after consultation with his last three surviving sons. This provided for the primogeniture for the imperial county of Montfort. Their last remaining dominions Tettnang and Argen were declared as Montfortsches Majorat . The respective bishop of Constance was to serve as the curator of the count's house .

After confirmation of the house rules by the emperor in 1654, Count Hugo XVIII. 1655 his son Johann X. von Montfort took over the official business. He retired to Argen Castle as a retirement home, repaired the war damage caused by the Thirty Years' War and converted it into a castle in the baroque style, in line with fashion. He died there in 1662.
