The Hŭich'ŏn Reservoir is a project near Hŭich'ŏn in North Korea , with which the Ch'ŏngch'ŏn River is dammed. Construction of the dam began in March 2009 on the instructions of Kim Jong-il . It was completed in April 2012. The associated hydropower plant has a maximum output of 300 megawatts . It should contribute to the power supply of Pyongyang , 175 km southeast.
