Hula (also al-hula or haula , Arabic الحولة, DMG al-Ḥūla ) is a group of settlements in the Syrian Governorate of Homs . Hula consists of four settlements in total. The residents of Hula are mostly Sunnis . There are three Alawites and one Shiite village in the vicinity .

In late May 2012, during the uprising in Syria , the Hula massacre of residents took place in one of the settlements . The media reported 116 dead, including 34 children, and 300 injured. At the beginning of June 2012, testimonies by regional opposition members about the course of events cast doubt on the government's guilt. The victims were almost exclusively members of the Alawite minority who were considered loyal to the government. These reports are contradicted by Spiegel, whose reporter was told on the spot about the intrusion of Assad troops into Hula. According to this information, only Sunnis live in Hula and no Alawites loyal to the regime.
