Homs ( Arabic محافظة حمص, DMG Muḥāfaẓat Ḥimṣ ) is one of the 14 Syrian governorates and is located in the center of the country. Around 1,763,000 people live in an area of ​​42,223 km² (2010 estimate). The capital of the governorate is Homs .
