Damascus ( Arabic محافظة دمشق, DMG Muḥāfaẓat Dimašq ) is one of the 14 Syrian governorates . In an area of ​​105 km², the population in the 2004 census was 1,552,161, an estimate for 2011 according to 1,754,000 people.

The Damascus Governorate is completely surrounded by the Rif Dimashq Governorate .

structure

The governorate consists of only one district of the same name (Mintaqat Dimaschq), which in turn consists of only one Nahiya (Nahiyat Markaz Dimaschq). This is subdivided into the city of Damascus and al-Yarmuk .
