Tell Kalach ( Arabic تلكلخ, DMG Talkalaḫ ) is a Syrian city. It lies on the border with Lebanon and is the capital of the Tell Kalach district in the Homs governorate . A large part of the population lives from smuggling.

history

On May 15, 2011, the Syrian army occupied Tell Kalach as part of the protests in Syria . The reason for this were demonstrations against the government under Bashar al-Assad the day before. Seven people were killed in the occupation. Around 2,000 residents fled to Lebanon. On May 18, at least 27 civilians died in fighting with the security forces.

At the beginning of 2013, the city was effectively under the control of the rebels, but it was largely enclosed by government troops.

After citizens' representatives and FSA fighters decided to surrender the city without a fight, it was reoccupied by government troops on June 25, 2013.
