The human centrifuge is a large centrifuge . This technical device consists of a cabin, which is connected to a rotating bearing via the arm. When the centrifuge rotates, people sitting or lying down in the cabin experience a centrifugal force . This force can be several times the normal weight . The load is also specified as the g-force in multiples of the normal gravitational acceleration g .

The human centrifuge is used to investigate the possible effects of greater forces on humans. It is also used to train pilots and astronauts. Objects and components are also tested with it.

When a rocket is launched, accelerations of up to 4  g occur ; fighter jets and their pilots experience accelerations of up to 10  g during certain flight maneuvers . This fact has to be mastered both technically and physically and therefore human centrifuges are used for aviation and space medicine .

Effects

The faster the human centrifuge rotates, the higher the risk of unconsciousness for someone lying in the cabin. The blood in the veins follows the centrifugal force , which is directed radially outwards from the axis of rotation. The blood is pressed from the brain to the feet, which means that the brain can no longer receive enough blood . So-called anti-g-suits counteract this.
