Lobster traps

The lobster trap is a fishing device made of a wire cage with one or two chambers for hunting crustaceans, mainly crustaceans .
A funnel-like hole leads inside. The hole is mostly at the top of the trap. Thus, the traps work on a similar principle to fish traps . Several devices are often connected to a line with a floating body attached to the top. This makes it easier to recover the traps and indicates who the traps belong to.
In the true sense of the term, it is not an animal trap , as it lacks a self- triggering device that defines a trap.

It is used to catch many types of crustaceans in the sea, e.g. B. lobsters , lobsters , crabs , spider crabs . As bait , they are equipped with pieces of fish or squid. The traps are then usually placed in areas with a rocky bottom. Since lobsters are considered a delicacy, they are heavily fished. Therefore, in many countries there are catch quotas and minimum catch sizes to be observed. Crustaceans are usually kept alive until just before consumption.
