In his reworking for four bassoons (1912) a work was created, which the composer prefixed with an epigraph from the comedy Verstand macht Leiden by Alexander Sergejewitsch Gribojedow : “And that croak, strangler, the bassoon ...” . “The combination of four bassoons in the same pitch produced a strange effect that was unfamiliar to the ear.” In 1954, the piece was also included in the score for Prokofiev's ballet The Fairy Tale of the Stone Flower as accompaniment to the dance of the sky and the goat .
