108 pagodas

The hundred and eight pagodas and hundreds of Eight Dagobas ( Chinese  一百零八塔 , pinyin Yībǎilíngbā tǎ ) on the west bank of the Yellow River about 20 km from Qingtongxia (青铜峡市) located in Ningxia , China, lined up in a triangle on a mountain slope Leaning in twelve rows of 1, 2 × 3, 2 × 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 pieces. They date from the Yuan Dynasty .

Such a group of pagodas is unique in Chinese architecture. The number 108 possibly refers to the 108 Dharma Bodies ( Dharmakaya ) reported in the Vajrashekhara Sutra (Sutra of the Diamond Crown).

Usually one speaks of the "108 kinds of worldly passions". Each pagoda accordingly stands for one of these "types of worldly passions".

The 108 pagodas have been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 1988 (3-155)
