Dog beach

As a dog beach is known beaches where the entrainment of dogs is explicitly allowed. Dog laws or nature conservation regulations prohibit the taking of dogs in many places.

Germany

Schleswig-Holstein

In Schleswig-Holstein, the establishment of dog beaches is regulated in the administrative regulation for the dog law of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. While the Dog Act of 2016 in Section 3 Paragraph 3 Clause 1 No. 3 forbids taking dogs to “bathing establishments and bathing areas on surface waters”, these exceptions are regulated in the administrative regulation.

In the period from April 1st to October 31st, dogs are not allowed to be taken to bathing areas on sea beaches, which results from § 32 Abs. 2 of the State Nature Conservation Act (LNatSchG). According to this, dog beaches can be set up under certain conditions in the sense of a special use according to § 34 LNatSchG. The decree also says: "Such an exception is not possible on inland waterways."

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

While the Dog Owner Ordinance from 2000 in Section 3 Paragraph 1 forbids taking dangerous dogs with you to swimming areas, local statutes often regulate a ban on dogs on beaches and the exception in the form of dog beaches. Some examples are statutes for Heringsdorf (Usedom), Zingst (Darß) and Nienhagen.
