Huntington Ingalls Industries ( HII ) is a US shipyard group that was spun off from its parent company Northrop Grumman on March 31, 2011 .
The previous Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding (NGSB) was in turn formed on January 28, 2008 through the merger of the two Northrop Grumman shipbuilding companies Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (NGSS) , in turn the merger of Ingalls Shipbuilding and Avondale Shipyard and Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) .
