Hurlstone (perforated stone)

The Hurlstone is one of the few perforated bricks ( english Holed stones ) as a generic name in the Republic of Ireland . He is in County Louth near the village of Ardee . The hole in the 25 cm thick plate is 20 cm in diameter and was important in ancient times, as it was used for the taking of vows . Perforated stones are very rare among Ireland's monuments and are restricted to the northern part of the island. A second stone of this type can be found in Doagh , County Antrim , Northern Ireland .
