Huron is a city in Fresno County in California , United States . In 2010 there were 6,754 residents registered there, after 6,356 in 2000. According to the 2000 Census, the city had the highest proportion of Latinos and Hispanics in the USA at that time .

Huron is located 24 kilometers east-northeast of Coalinga at an altitude of 114 meters.

history

The city was founded in 1888 as a water point for the Union Pacific Railroad's western route . A post office was in operation there from 1877 to 1883 and then from 1886. Joseph Mouren, one of the founding fathers, and his family contributed significantly to the growth of the city. Huron became a center of wool production in the early 20th century.
