The Hvítavatn (Icelandic: white lake ) is a small lake in the southern highlands of Iceland .
It is roughly halfway between Sídujökull and Skeiðarárjökull , two southern foothills of Iceland's largest glacier, Vatnajökull . It is about 15 km north of the notorious Skeiðarásander .
Given the large number of glaciers in Iceland, it should come as no surprise that many of the lakes and rivers either have the adjective hvítur (isl. = White) in their names or their names are compounds with the noun jökull (isl. = Glacier).
