action

Even as a child, Seon-mi has the ability to see so-called "monsters" or the undead that remain hidden from other people. Sometimes they attack Seon-mi, for example at school or on the way home. She then defends herself with a yellow umbrella or is protected by the ghost of her late grandmother. When she is attacked by a monster again one day, she is protected by the lord of hell Woo. He offers her his magic cane to ward off the monsters. Seon-mi is supposed to bring him a fan that is located in a haunted house that has served as a prison for the monster Son Oh-gong, a "heavenly sage" for several hundred years. Son Oh-gong tricked Seon-mi so that she accidentally frees him. In doing so, he makes a pact with her to protect her whenever she calls his name. However, he makes Seon-mi forget his name.

In 2017, Seon-mi is a young adult using her skill in real estate trading. She buys houses in which monsters are up to mischief and thus frightening the owners. Then she negotiates with the monsters or drives them away. Helllord Woo works in the entertainment industry and heads Lucifer Entertainment, where u. A. Models, dancers and K-pop stars are under contract - almost all of them monsters as well. The encounter between Seon-mi and Woo in Seon-mi's childhood made her a so-called Sam-jang, a kind of monk who was destined to turn the fate of mankind for the better. However, if a monster succeeds in eating Sam-jang, it becomes very powerful, which is why various monsters start to hunt Seon-mi.

Here the paths of Seon-mi, Son Oh-gong and Hell Lord Woo cross again. Son Oh-gong's first goal is to eat Sam-jang in order to become incredibly powerful. But since he made a pact with Seon-mi to protect her at the time, he cannot cause her any harm. Helllord Woo, on the other hand, can become a deity through Sam-jang's rescue and thereby save his own great love, which for centuries has been punished with living a life full of agony and dying again and again in terrible ways. So Son Oh-gong and Woo get together more or less reluctantly, because Woo is very annoyed by Son Oh-gong. Woo is also supported by other monsters - for example his assistant Ms. Ma, the star "PK" or his cook Dae-Sik, who is the CEO of a large cell phone manufacturer in his human life. Even if it sometimes seems as if the monsters are friendly towards Seon-mi, it becomes clear again and again that these Seon-mi want to use Seon-mi primarily for their own purpose, at least initially. For example, Woo's assistant Ma is ready to sacrifice Seon-mi to allegedly do the lord of hell a favor. At the beginning, Son Oh-gong also repeatedly emphasizes that he is only helping Seon-mi because of her pact. Helllord Woo then tricked Son Oh-gong and procured a magical bracelet for Seon-mi, the Geumganggo, through which Son Oh-gong was emotionally bound to Seon-mi. Thus Woo ensures that Son Oh-gong cannot attack Sam-jang. Son Oh-gong lets Seon-mi remember his name again so that she can call him in dangerous situations. He then saves her or people who Seon-mi wants to protect, like her assistant Han-joo, from attacks by monsters several times.

While Seon-mi, supported by the monsters, repeatedly manages smaller assignments, in the course of the series it slowly becomes clear what a great mission she has. Feelings for Son Oh-gong also strengthen in her, which she does not want to allow at first because she is of the opinion that his feelings for her are exclusively the result of the Geumganggo and that he is really only in love with himself. Son Oh-gong tells her again and again that he supports and protects her because he loves her, but always refers directly to the compulsion by the Geumganggo. However, Seon-mi soon has the opportunity to find out how Son Oh-gong feels for her, if the Geumganggo does not affect his feelings.
