Hydraulic brake assist

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A hydraulic brake assistant (HBA) is an assistance function in automobiles. This is a special version of the brake assistant . The hydraulic brake assistant has the task of recognizing emergency or panic braking, in which the driver does not apply the necessary actuation force on the brake pedal for an emergency braking. In these situations, the system automatically increases the brake pressure so that the maximum vehicle deceleration and thus a shorter braking distance is achieved.

functionality

The brake assistant uses the speed at which the brake pedal is operated to determine whether the driver wants full braking and automatically increases the brake pressure up to the ABS control range as long as the driver depresses the brake pedal. If the brake pressure specification by the driver decreases, the system reduces the brake pressure to the default value.

The detection of the operating speed and the detection of the entered by the driver brake pressure takes place by means of the ESC installed -Control tandem master cylinder - pressure sensor . The additional pressure build-up beyond the driver's brake pressure is achieved with the help of the hydraulic pump in the ESC system .

In this way, the braking distance can be greatly reduced in certain situations. The system is hardly noticeable for the driver.
