Hydrochloride rubber

Hydrochloride rubber is a derivative of natural rubber .

Manufacture and properties

The reaction of hydrogen chloride with a solution of natural rubber in benzene or chloroform or with acid-stabilized natural latex and the subsequent precipitation with alcohol produce a white powder called hydrochloride rubber . The chlorine content of the powder is between 28 and 33 % by weight , it is insoluble in polar solvents and moderately soluble in some aromatics or chlorinated hydrocarbons .
