Hydrosols

Hydrolates , formerly also called plant water , flower water or aromatic water , are by-products of the steam distillation of plants or their parts. They arise as condensate when the distillation steam cools and are z. T. repeatedly returned to the distillation process. Hydrolates contain the water-soluble phytonutrients, traces of suspended essential oils . Hydrolates have similar effects to the corresponding essential oils, but have a milder effect and - depending on the different ingredients - can also differ slightly from the effects of the essential oils.

A hydrosol is a product that is not stable and germs very quickly . For this reason, most hydrosols contain alcohol . However, this means that they can no longer be used for aroma medical applications. A hydrosol with alcohol content can be kept for up to 16 months. A hydrosol without alcohol can only be kept for a few weeks.

Depending on the plant extract, hydrolates are mainly used for natural skin care as facial tonic or aftershave . But also as a refreshing body spray , for making perfumes and essences, for inhalation, also for oral care , for compresses, for hair care and as a room fragrance .
