Anthem of the Republic of Dagestan
The current national anthem of the Republic of Dagestan ( Russian Государственный гимн Республики Дагестан Gossudarstwenny Gimn Respubliki Dagestan ), also known as Eid ( Russian Клятва Kljatwa ) since 2016, the anthem of Dagestan . The hymn replaces Dagestan, ty ottschisna swjataja ("Dagestan, you holy fatherland") by Shirvani Khalayev, which served as the state anthem from 2003 to 2016.
Legal basis and selection of the anthem
The legal basis for the use of an anthem was created by the Law of the Republic of Dagestan “On the State Anthem of the Republic of Dagestan” on November 19, 2003 № 26 (with amendments on April 4, 2006). Along with the flag and the national coat of arms, the anthem is one of the three national symbols of the autonomous Russian republic. It can be performed in an orchestral or other instrumental version. The law regulates the occasions on which the anthem is performed and obliges it to be performed "in strict accordance with the approved music version".
The hymn by Shirvani Khalayev, a respected composer and honored folk artist, which was valid until 2016, reminded state leader Ramasan Abdullatipov of a funeral melody . Against the protests of Khalayev and other composers, musicologists, citizen activists and journalists who defended the previous hymn in social networks and in an open letter as a unified sound image of the multinational country, a call was made in March 2015 to the composition of a new work, which was a solemn, should have a patriotic and life-affirming character.
The lyrics of the hymn and only afterwards the melody were then approved in a competition organized in two stages by the government and the Ministry of Culture. The competition proposals submitted were limited to three stanzas (with a maximum of three refrains) and a performance time of seven minutes; a short version should be playable in three minutes. In a pre-selection, five text proposals were approved, in the second phase three finished works, consisting of music with text in the form of notation and sound recording, were submitted to the commission for examination. The hymn "Eid" composed by Murad Kaschlajew with verses by Rassul Gamsatow, translated by Nikolai Doriso and presented by the leadership of the Union of Musicians of Dagestan, was selected. Selection criteria were the musical and poetic grace of the work, its pathetic character and the consistency with the genre of the anthem.
