The HTCP ( Hypertext Caching Protocol ) is one of the Internet Engineering Task Force standardized (IETF) protocol ( RFC 2756 for) HTTP - cache and stored data.

It is used for the efficient management and monitoring of a buffer memory (cache) which minimizes direct access to the server . The protocol is transmitted with the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), optionally also with the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).

HTCP is intended to replace other cache protocols such as Internet Cache Protocol (ICP), Web Cache Control Protocol (WCCP) and Cache Array Routing Protocol (CARP).
