Gerhard Freiherr von Tiesenhausen ( Latvian Gerhards fon Tīzenhauzens ; born April 14 . Jul / 26. April  1878 greg. In Tartu ; † 26. October 1917 in Tiraspol ) was an architect of the Art Nouveau of Riga .

Life

The from the Baltic German noble family Tiesenhausens originating Gerhard von Tiesenhausen studied in Riga and Paris architecture and graduated at the Riga Polytechnic in 1907 from. Then he joined the architecture office of Edmund von Trompowskys , a renowned architect in Riga.

Both played a major role in the construction activity in the Kaiserwald district (today: Mežaparks ), where one of the first garden cities in Europe with numerous Art Nouveau villas was built at the beginning of the 20th century . About half of the buildings come from Tiesenhausen. In 1910 von Tiesenhausen started his own business. He completed some very interesting works that have been preserved in Riga, for example buildings 4/6 and 8/10 in Glika iela .

After the outbreak of the First World War , von Tiesenhausen was called up as a military architect. He died as a result of an accident in Tiraspol . In 2003, a commemorative plaque was affixed to his house at 25 Stettiner Strasse in Kaiserwald.
