Išua

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The land of Išua (Enzi, classical Anzitene ) lies in the plain of Elazığ ( Altınova ) and corresponds to the Hittite Išuwa . The capital was Enzite .

Enzite is in the annals of the Assyrian king Shalmaneser III. mentioned as part of a campaign against Urartu in his third year of reign (856) ( Kurkh stele ). Immediately after Enzite was mentioned, the king describes the crossing of the Arsania ( Murat ) river to get to Suḫme with the Uaštal fortress ( Palu ? Castle ). In the area was Ergani Maden , known in the annals as the pass (nērebu) of Enzite.
