IBM Cross System Product ( CSP ) is a 1981 by IBM introduced 4GL Programmieruumgebung in mainframe range. The aim of the development tool was to increase productivity in the development of mainframe computer applications that were common in the 1980s . CSP used a fourth-generation , simple language similar to COBOL and various tools, for example for the design of screen masks . In 1994 CSP was replaced by the product VisualGen , which was later renamed Visual Age and which could cover the requirements of a client-server architecture and enable graphical user interfaces .

CSP enabled development for various IBM platforms at the time such as VM / CMS , MVS , AS / 400 or OS / 2 , which is reflected in the name of the product. When changing the platform, only regeneration was required.

The latest version of CSP, version 4.1, is no longer of IBM since 2002 supported .
