IBM Visual Age
IBM Visual Age is an integrated development environment from IBM for most of the major languages such as C , C ++ , Smalltalk and Java . In addition, there is a plug-in called "VisualAge Generator", which is available for both the Smalltalk and the Java environment and is used to develop host applications for IBM computers in a 4GL programming language similar to Cobol . You have the option of generating source code in different languages, such as Cobol, C ++ or Java, which is where the name "generator" comes from. This went on in the Eclipse era in the WebSphere Studio Enterprise Developer. The 4GL language used is now called Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) .
IBM Visual Age has a proprietary repository (Envy) for the version management of the source texts, a connection to CVS , Subversion or other is not possible.
Almost all VisualAge products have been implemented in VisualAge for Smalltalk.
IBM Visual Age for Java has meanwhile been superseded by the open source project Eclipse , for which IBM offers a powerful extension with the Rational Application Developer .
VisualAge Smalltalk has been developed by Instantiations since 2005 under the name VA Smalltalk for the Windows , AIX , Linux and Solaris operating systems . Version 7.5 was brought onto the market at the beginning of 2007
