The Hildesheim Cathedral Music comprises the music ensembles of the Mariendom in Hildesheim . There was already a mixed boys 'choir in the Middle Ages , which still exists today as the Choir of the Cathedral Boys' Choir .

Since 2000, cathedral music director Thomas Viezens and cathedral cantor Stefan Mahr have been the overall direction of all choirs. In addition, from July 2014 to mid-2017 Georg Oberauer was employed as a cathedral music assistant with a focus on organ. Auxiliary Bishop Heinz-Günter Bongartz presides over the cathedral music as cathedral dean .

Choirs

The following choirs exist in cathedral music:

Cathedral choir

The cathedral choir has been under the direction of Thomas Viezens since 2000. Men and women from almost all ages who are interested in choral works from all ages work together here. The cathedral choir organizes services and gives guest appearances, but concerts are also on the agenda. Major performances were, for example, Bach's St. John Passion or Rheinberger's “Star of Bethlehem”. The repertoire ranges from classical, baroque and romantic to modern a cappella works.

Girls' Choir

There are two girls' choirs in the Hildesheim Cathedral Music, which were founded in 1973 by Cathedral Music Director Hermann Bode and which were divided into three choirs in the 2010 reorganization .

Vorchor and Aufbauchor

The pre- and post-choir serve as preparation for the main choir. Games and fun are in the foreground in the choir, which works with the children's choir.

Main choir

The main choir, which is capable of concerts, undertakes many choir trips, e.g. B. Trips to guest appearances. Together with choir director Stefan Mahr, the choir community also undertakes choir trips to national and international Pueri Cantores events. At larger concerts, the main choir also sings with the cathedral choir and the cathedral choir boys.

Domsingknaben

The boys' choir of Hildesheim Cathedral is certainly the oldest choir in Hildesheim Cathedral. Unfortunately, due to the damage caused by the war, especially the bombing of Hildesheim on March 22, 1945, written sources have been lost. The boys 'choir works with the cathedral choir, and at larger events also with the girls' choir.

Schola Gregoriana

Since it was founded in 2003, this choral schola has sung choral works that focus on Gregorian music from the 11th century. This choir mainly participates in prayer services and also in monasteries .

Chamber choir

The youngest offspring of the Hildesheim Cathedral Music (April 2006) is the chamber choir . It comprises about 20 members who work on sacred choral works under professional guidance. The specialty of this choir is that the choir often works on its own pieces.

Mutant group

This choir is open to boys with a broken voice: the mutants receive professional voice training by arrangement . In addition, the singers organize services with some of the men from the cathedral choir.

Reorganization 2010

A reorganization of the cathedral music was decided in 2010. The cathedral choir boys got Thomas Viezens as their new director, which should guarantee an easier transition to the cathedral choir. The girls 'choir A became the main choir, the B-choir became the building choir and the children's choir became the pre-choir of the girls' choir, with the children's choir specializing for girls.

Premises

During the cathedral renovation , the cathedral music was housed in temporary rooms. After the reopening in August 2014, the ensembles moved back into the redesigned historic premises of the Hildesheim Cathedral School . In addition, the side wing of the former Godehardichores above the Northern Paradise, which is separated from the cathedral by a wall, is available as a large new rehearsal room. There are also lounges and a large voice training room.
