Thomas Viezens

Thomas Viezens (* 1962 in Helmstedt ) is a German church musician .

Viezens began his church music training during his school days in Helmstedt at KMD i. R. Friedrich Isenbürger. After graduating from high school, he studied Catholic church music at the Hanover University of Music and Theater (B-exam; organ with Dietrich v. Amsberg, Harald Vogel, Hans-Joachim Rolf and Bernhard Schneider, choir direction with Heinz Hennig ) and at the Bremen University of the Arts (A-exam 1992; organ with Martina Kürschner and cathedral organist Wolfgang Baumgratz, choir direction with Wolfgang Helbich).

After completing his studies, he worked from 1992 to 1997 as the deanery church musician of the Diocese of Hildesheim , based in St. Ludwig (Celle) . Important points of his work there included a. the development and expansion of the Deanery Choir in Celle, the founding of the St. Ludwig children's choir and the planning of the new organ, which was completed in 1998.

On January 1, 1998 he was appointed cathedral organist at the High Cathedral in Hildesheim , in April 2000 the Hildesheim cathedral chapter appointed him cathedral music director, responsible for the Hildesheim cathedral music . Associated with this is the direction of the cathedral choir, the chamber choir, the cathedral choir and the choral schola "Schola Gregoriana".

For the Diocese of Hildesheim , Thomas Viezens has worked as a consultant in the liturgy department in the church music department since 1998. Until 2017 he belonged to the group of diocesan organ experts.
