Georg Oberauer

Georg Oberauer (* 1984 in Hallein ) is an Austrian-German church musician , university lecturer and concert organist.

Life

education

He grew up in Annaberg in the Lammertal in the state of Salzburg. In addition to attending the Federal Trade Academy, he studied from the age of 15 as a young student in Elisabeth Ullmann's organ class at the Mozarteum University of Music and Performing Arts in Salzburg. In 1998 he received first prize at the “Prima la Musica” competition in Linz and the “Art Prize” from the Lions Club “Pongau-Höch”.

Education

He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart in the courses Master Church Music A, Diploma Instrumental Pedagogy and Diploma Artistic Education with a major in organ (including organ with Jon Laukvik and Martha Schuster , improvisation with Willibald Bezler and cathedral organist Johannes Mayr as well as Harpsichord / historical performance practice with Jörg Halubek ). He received important artistic impulses in the piano as a second major from Péter Nagy (Budapest). He also studied musicology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen .

He was a scholarship holder of the Catholic bishop's scholarship for gifted students Cusanuswerk and a recommended student at the Stuttgart University of Music as a selected scholarship holder of the "Rotary Club Ansbach" as part of the Ansbach Bach Week in 2007. As a tutor he taught piano at the Stuttgart University of Music as well as a piano class several times a city music school.

In 2008 he was a finalist at the “2. Franz Schmidt Organ Competition ”in Kitzbühel, he received the 2nd prize at the“ Stuttgart Prize for Piano Education ”in 2010. He became a semi-finalist at the “60. International ARD Music Competition 2011 ”and received the special award from“ Bärenreiter-Verlag ”for the organ category. In 2013 he was a finalist at the “Concours International d'Orgue - Orgues sans frontières” in Luxembourg.

Master classes for organ and improvisation with Bernhard Haas , Peter Planyavsky , Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini , Jürgen Essl, Pier Damiano Peretti , Jean Guillou and Michael Radulescu and for piano with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling expanded his knowledge.

Professional activities

Concert activity as organ soloist (including Philharmonie Essen, Cologne Cathedral, Bonn Minster, Stuttgart Cathedral St. Eberhard, Collegiate Church Stuttgart, Cathedral St. Martin in Rottenburg), piano répétiteur and continuo player for organ and harpsichord in Germany, Austria, France and Poland, including one multiple collaboration with the Stuttgart State Orchestra. In 2013, the SWR made a well-known radio recording of Maurice Duruflé's “Requiem op. 9” in the organ solo version with the Chamber Choir of the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart under the direction of Denis Rouger.

From 2014 to 2016 he was the main organist of the Hildesheim cathedral church as cathedral music assistant and artistic director of the organ concerts at the High Cathedral.

In 2015, the first CD of the new Hildesheim cathedral organs was released in cooperation with the sound carrier label "Ambiente" ("The organs in the Mariendom in Hildesheim - Georg Oberauer plays organ works from six centuries").

Educational activity

Since the winter semester 2016/2017 he has been teaching organ literature and organ improvisation as a lecturer at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media .
