Willibald Bezler

Willibald Bezler (born July 25, 1942 in Ellwangen ; † April 15, 2018 there ) was a German church musician , university professor and composer .

Life

After studying church music (A) and singing in Stuttgart, Willibald Bezler worked as a church musician at the Basilica of St. Vitus in Ellwangen from 1967 to 2007 . Bezler has been teaching at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts since 1979, where he has been professor for organ improvisation and liturgical organ playing since 1995 . His pupils and students included Samuel Kummer and Thomas Dahl . Bezler has performed improvisations on texts, films and works of art at numerous concerts at home and abroad. He was invited to the Festival of European Church Music in Schwäbisch Gmünd and the International Organ Improvisation Festival in Berlin .

Compositions

Willibald Bezler composed numerous masses, motets and organ works. For the Protestant hymn book he created choir pieces, intonations and organ accompaniments.

Competitions

  • 1998 - Prize winner in the improvisation competition of Südwestfunk (SWF).
  • 2002 - Church Music Composition Prize Baden-Württemberg.
