Catholic International Center of Geneva

The Catholic International Center of Geneva ( en . : International Catholic Center of Geneva , abbreviation: ICCG ; fr . : Center Catholique International Genéve , abbreviation: CCIG ; it . : Centro Cattolico Internazionale di Genevra ) is a Roman Catholic association of believers . It was founded in Geneva in 1950 and works closely with the non-governmental organizations that exercise their seat and voting rights at the United Nations . A total of 23 Catholic associations are affiliated with the CCIG.

history

On the initiative of the World Federation of Catholic Women's Organizations , international Catholic organizations came together in the 1950s and founded the Catholic International Center of Geneva in Geneva. Seven lay people formed the core of the team . In the following years the field of activity developed and the organization assumed its basic structure. It was not until the statutes, which were revised in 1992, that the name “Catholic International Center of Geneva” was chosen and the new form of organization established. In the same year they were recognized by the then Pontifical Council for the Laity as an international Catholic organization under papal law and were included in the official register . The choice of location for Geneva was based on the seat of the UN Human Rights Council , with which the CCIG has concluded a cooperation agreement.

Self-image

The members are committed to international coexistence, promote public opinion and want to improve the quality of the Catholic-oriented non-governmental organizations that are active in the bodies of the UN. To this end, they work with international NGOs , organize events and seminars, and work closely with the UN Human Rights Council. In addition, they promote training programs that focus on supporting the realization of global human rights .

Organization and expansion

In the General Assembly, the CCIG elects a steering committee from whose members the president is elected. The Executive Board, with its headquarters in Geneva, consists of the President, the Vice-President, five members of the Board, the Treasurer , the Secretary General and a Secretary. The CCIG has 23 international member associations and 33 individual members, the CCIG maintains 10 international partnerships. The center publishes the monthly “Informations Internationales” in French, English and Spanish.
