IEEE 1451

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IEEE 1451 is a collection of IEEE standards that describe general, open, network-independent interfaces to connect sensors and actuators , microprocessors , sensor systems, networks and field buses .

The aim of the IEEE 1451 standards is to address sensors and actuators with the help of a uniform interface, regardless of whether they are connected via serial interfaces, wired networks or WLAN .

A central element is the electronic data sheet "Transducer Electronic Data Sheet" (TEDS). This is a memory in which identification data of the sensor, calibration data and other sensor parameters are stored. In addition, user data can also be stored in the TEDS memory. The advantages of the electronic data sheet are the simplification of measurement setups with a large number of sensors and the increased reliability due to the automatic detection of sensors. Numerous measuring devices and data acquisition systems have sensor connections that allow TEDS data to be read out.

Substandards

IEEE 1451.0
Defines uniform operations and the format of the TEDS for the entire IEEE 1451 standard collection. All functionality is specified independently of the physical communication medium in order to be able to easily add further physical 1451.X layers .
IEEE 1451.1
older definition of uniform operations and the format of TEDS. Replaced by IEEE 1451.0
IEEE 1451.2
describes the communication between NCAP (Network Capable Application Processor) and sensors for point-to-point connections, e.g. B. with the help of RS232 , I2C or USB
IEEE 1451.3
describes the communication between NCAP and sensors for multi-drop connections
IEEE 1451.4
defines a "mixed" interface for analog IEPE sensors, both analog and digital work
IEEE 1451.5
describes the communication between NCAP and sensors for wireless connections such as IEEE 802.11 (WiFi), IEEE 802.15.1 (Bluetooth) or IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee)
IEEE 1451.6 (Draft)
describes the communication between NCAP and sensors for CANopen networks
IEEE 1451.7 (Draft)
describes the communication with RFID tags that correspond to the ISO / IEC 24753 standard
