IE Tab is an extension ( add-on ) for the Mozilla Firefox , Flock , SeaMonkey and Google Chrome browsers .
Before Firefox 3.6 was released, the original add-on was downloaded up to 160,000 times a week (as of October 2009) and had an average of over 3.5 million users worldwide (as of February 2010) at peak times.

IE Tab enables web pages to be displayed using the Internet Explorer ( Trident ) HTML rendering engine without leaving Firefox. This is particularly useful for pages that are only displayed correctly in Internet Explorer, such as Windows Update or other pages that use ActiveX . The pages visited via IE Tab are saved in the course of Internet Explorer, as if the page had been opened directly in Internet Explorer. The extension is also used by web designers in order to be able to display and compare websites simultaneously in both browsers. A complete functionality of all versions is so far only given under Windows , since the installed version of Internet Explorer is accessed.
Emergence
IE Tab was originally developed by Taiwanese medical student Hong Jen Yee, also known as PCMan. A first demo page was published by him in the forum of the Taiwanese Mozilla community. The idea was picked up by other Taiwanese developers of Firefox extensions known as yuoo2k, dexter and softcup. As a result of further collaboration, an extension was created that was published as a prototype with the help of the Mozilla developer Christian Biesinger , including XPCOM . After being published on the Mozilla website and in the corresponding forums, it is now one of the most popular Firefox extensions.
Development status
The original developer Hong Jen Yee left the project in early 2006. The project is being further developed by yuoo2k. The original IE Tab is only compatible up to Firefox 3.6a1pre. The IE Tab 2 add-on is a development compatible with Firefox from version 3.6 . The developer is ietab.net.
Blackfish Software, also ietab.net, developed a version for the Google Chrome browser using the original open source IE Tab .
There is another fork, "Coral IE Tab / IE Tab Plus" from quaful with some additional features, which some users classify as spyware.
