IFP Energy Nouvelles
The IFP Énergies nouvelles ( IFPEN , until 2010 Institut Français du Pétrole , IFP) is a French research institute based in the Paris suburb of Rueil-Malmaison and another location in Solaize in the greater Lyon area. It is a corporation under public law and has had the legal form of an Établissement public à caractère industriel et commercial (EPIC) since 2010 ; until then it was an établissement professionnel . The institute, founded on June 13, 1944, has both research and teaching assignments.
According to the institute, the activities of IFPEN are grouped around three “strategic priorities”: sustainable mobility, new energies and “responsible hydrocarbons ”. It is financed on the one hand by a budget from public funds and on the other from income that the institute raises through cooperation with industrial partners. They make up over 50% of the total IFPEN budget.
In 2016, IFPEN employed over 1650 people, including around 1150 researchers. The institute's annual budget was 281 million euros.
