International Institute for Sustainable Development

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD, in German: International Institute for Sustainable Development ) is a Canadian research institute that deals with the problem area of sustainable development . It tries to collect findings from environmental and development research and to develop integrated, connecting concepts for both fields.

Organization was founded in 1990 and has been operating on an economically profit-free basis ever since . There are currently around 150 employees in jobs in over 30 countries. There are organizational connections to over 200 partner institutions worldwide. The institute's annual budget is approximately 12 million Canadian dollars (the equivalent of almost 8 million euros ).

The organization is best known for its daily reporting from almost all major international environmental and development conferences. These include, for example, the regular meetings of the parties to the Kyoto Protocol , the Commission for Sustainable Development , the Convention on Biological Diversity and numerous other agreements.
